Question/answer » What are passkeys and how do I set them up?

A passkey, in Dutch toegangssleutel, is a new way to log in. Without a password. You log in the same way you unlock your phone: with your fingerprint, your face or the PIN of your device.

Why is this handy?

  • You do not have to remember or type a password.
  • It is safer. A passkey cannot be guessed or stolen via a fake website.
  • It is fast. One tap and you are logged in.

How to set up a passkey

  1. Log in and go to your profile.
  2. Click Passkeys.
  3. Click Add passkey and follow the steps of your device.

A passkey belongs to one device or to your password manager. Do you use several devices? Then create a passkey on each device.

Good to know

  • Your password keeps working. You can always log in the old way.
  • A passkey also works for logging in to Open Archives, Family Archivist, the Stamboom Forum and the Stamboom Gids.
