fied before this, since they were mostly present and experienced and say the same
thing, while some of them at that time learmed some matters from the other new
members, such as the said Hermen Hillebrantsen and Lolle Reijner, who were
both doing carpenter’s word in Adriaen Block's yacht when the other members
of the new were all in Hendrick Carstiaensen’s ship, according to the above men-
tioned declaration, so that both of them there board what had hoppened, as is
declered before. All the witnesses unanimusly declare that from the first day that
he arrive and came with his ship to the Virginias till the last day, the afore¬
menioned captain Adriaen Block ajways Zehaved peacefully and quietly and
tried to present all quarrel and discord, that avose and that he made and kept the
agreement.
They also know very well that neither the said Block, shipper Thijs Mossel and
his supercargo, nor their new forbade orbrevented the trade and commerce, or
obstructed or offered to make resistance to it. On the contrary, it is true that the
people of Thijs Mossel’s shipmit trouble and discord and tried to interpose
difficulties andhrstaeles as they perceivad from their debavions and also under¬
stood from others there.
The witnesses present etc.
Done in the afore said city of Amsterdam, at the homme of the before mentioned
Adriaen Block, in the presence of Jan Barentss, blacksmith, and Ellert van Die-
men, asked to be witnesses for this.
