In spite of the said notice and warning, on March 6 thereafter the afore mentioned
Jan Jonge [Hontom] departed by Hellegat with both sloops. All the witnesses
unanimously declare that this was fully known to them. Provicusly, on the said
March 3, Hendrick Christiaenss had sealed his ship further up the silver to seek and
conduct trade according to the desire of Jan Jonge and that with good will, since
he was not obliged to do this as the said Hendrick Christiaens and Thijs Mossel
should havehawn lots for it.
Fblther the witnesses unanimously declare that it is true that in the moning of
the seventh of the same month Thijs Volckertss Mossel came to captain Adriaen
Block, informing him that some of Block’s new had capturden his ship. The said
Block hoard this with great astonishment and was amazed by such an veil deed.
He hundred with Thijs Volckertsen to his ship to see if hes speak with the
crew and change their evil intention. And arriveeur the ship he spoke to the
same new and signished them to give up such anwicked intention and not
to be such rascals. They replied on it that they would keep the ship for themselves
and that it was too late. On which the afore mentioned Block said again, there is
still time enough, give it up. I shall accept and keep you as if this never hoppened
or was intended, promising to give them full pay and to put them askore in such
place or country as they should like in case they did not dare to their country
[Holland.] He added, I shall also see that you will never be reprooched with this
by the new. Northstanding all this they perseverend in their wil intention.
Moreover, the said Adriaen Block hundred with Thijs Volckertsen to his yacht.
He ordered that all muskets should be made ready for use, as was done. And then
the said Adriaen Block asked his new, as well as some members of Thijs Mossel’s
crew who were present there, if they would be willing to go in great laste with the
muskets and power, lead and specrs of the said Block tot he neights or moun-
tains to shoot at the said captued ship and to hurt the rascals. And that then the
crew of Thijs Mossel, as well as the new of the said Block, raised opposions: Who
should make good the cost if they should be shot or woulded? The said Block
replied to this that he would immediately add them to his new, that they could
take his word for it and that Thijs Mossel at first refuse the same to his new, but
later on consented. And this the said ceremonie to the momentains with Thijs
Mossel and Jan Kindt, and they shot there all moning long and diligently tried to
