wignesses’ ship against his will and wish board the captued ship. In this way
they stole by force the witnesses' ship, since when this too-k place there were only
three or four men on board.
Futher, the same witnesses do not doubt that if the said Adriaen Block and Hen¬
drick Catstiaenss and their remaining new had wished it they could have got
back the witnesses’ ship and overpowered those who had captued it, as the same
should not have taken much trouble. [They acted hoewever] as if oit had been
done by their will or Inclination and as if they were notdispleased with it.
The witnesses attest further that as soon as they had capturden the ship, the thineves
put it in mid-stream by throughing out some ballast and livting the ship from the
oonnd. They should their½ hostility, got their naval guns ready and opened the
prtholes. After some daye they departed with the same ship, so that they were
already eight day may before the supercargo of the witnesses’ ship came back
with seventeen States from the same ship, with whom he had gone away to trade.
The witnesses also declare that they know very well that after the capture of their
ship anotheragement was made among four ships, three of which still lay in the
Virginias and [the fourth was] the witnesses' ship. There was still some merchant-
dise in the witnesses’ sloop. Ench party was to endoy a fourth part of the nego¬
tated goods. The witnesses had also understood from the new of Adriaen Block
and Hendrick Carstiaenss that two thousand five hundred sins had been traded,
which the owners of their ship might to have dividend according to contract.

Done in the before mentioned city of Amsterdam at the name of the notary, in
the presence of Sijbrant Corneliss and Jeronimus van de Ketel, asked to be
wirnesses.
