made with the ship of the afore mentioned Mossel, although their shipper was
willing to give them whatsoever they asket for it.
Not withstanding all this, the witnesses and the other members of the new of the
afore mentioned Mossel (at the request and desire of the afore mentioned Hans
Joriss, their supercargo) wished to give no cause for quarrel and discord to the
crew of the afore mentioned Hendrick Carstiaenss, although they had good
reason and cause for this, owing to the afore mentioned testament. They tried
houever to maintain frieship with them as much as possible, since they wished
to trade peacefully with the others there. And when the said Adriaen Block had
also arrive there in the rever, the witnesses’skipper and supercargo made an
agreement with the afore mentioned Block and Hendrick Carstiaenss as to how
way they would trade with the others. To wit, that he, Block, would profit by
theeeskins out of each five, and their shipper and supercargo the other two sins.
both parties agreed to this on condition that the said Block would depart from
the silver with his ship and leave the trade there to the ship of the witnesses and
the ship of Hendrick Carstiaenss.
And when a short time later the ship of the afore mentioned Block was beened and
lost the supercargo and the shipper of the ship of the witnesses offered the said
Adriaen Block and Hendrick Carstiaenss to take half the new of the said Block
on their ship and pay those wages, that they had alreadyeraed and were owed
as well as what they would still cars, on condition that their ship and the ship of
Hendrick Carstiaenss should trade peacefully and that each party should enjoy
half on the trade.
The shipper and supercargo of the witnesses were also willing to take the whole
crew of the lost ship of Adriaen Block on their ship at the expense and charge of
their same [ship] on condition that their shipper and supercargo mightuujoy
same more in the trade.
The said Block and Hendrick Cartiaenss not only refuse and declined this, but
they also strred up, persuade and forbade the new of the afore mentioned Block
to come or go on the witnesses’ ship, as the witnesses had learmed from the disame
crew. The witnesses further declare that seven from the first day that they de-
parted here and also after they had arrived in the silver] they and the other new
hembers were often thousand by the said Hendrick Carstiaenss and also by his
