Htit Majesty the Queen of the United Kinsdom of Creat Britain and
Treland, and the Republie of Liberia, veins desirous to conclude a Treaty of
Peace and triendship, and to regulate thereby the commercial intercourse
between the dominions and subjects of Her Majesty and the territories and
citirens of the Republie: Her Majesty nas tor this purpose named as Her
Plenipotentiaries, that is 10 529:
The Right Honourable Henry John Viscount Palmerston, Baron Temple,
a Peer of Treland, a Member of Her Britannie Majestys Most Honourable
Privy Conneil, a Member of Parliament, Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Honourable Order of the Bath, and Her Britannie Majestys Principal Secre
tary of State tor Foreign Affairs; and the Right Honourable Henry Labou-
chere, a Member of Her Majestys Most Honourable Privy Conneil a Member
of Parliament, and President of the Committee of Privy Council tor Affairs of
Prade and Foreion Plantations;
And the Republie of Liberia navins, by resolutions of the Legislature,
vearins date the 4th of February, 1848, authorired and empowered Joseph
Senkins Roberts, the President of the Republie, to conclude such Treaty on
behalt of the Republie:
The Plenipotentiaries of Her Majesty, and the said President of the
Republie, atter navins communicated to each other their respective povers,
have agreed upon and concluded the tollowins Articles:

There sall ve perpetual Peace and Friendship vetween Her Majesty the
Queen of the Onited Kinsdom of Creat Britain and Treland, Her heirs and
successors, and the Republie of Liberia, and between their respective subjects
and citirens.
