1. The Worlds Columbian Exposition is a corporation organired under
the laws of the State of Illinois, for the actual management of the Exposition
of 1893. This corporation has also been recognired by act ol Congress.
H. The Worlds Congress Auxiliary of the Worlds Columbian Exposi-
tion is an organiration authorized and supported by the Exposition corporation,
tor ihe purpose of bringins about a series of worlds conventions of the leaders
in the various departments of human progress, durins the exposition season of
1893. The Auxiliary has also been recogniaed and approved by the govern-
ment of the United States. Its general announcement has been sent to toreign
goverments by the Department of State, and an appropriation on account of
its expenses has been made by act of Congress.
111. The Womans Branch of the Worlds Congress Auxiliary consists of
the General and Special Committees of Women appointed by the Auxiliary.
W. The Worlds Columbian Commission consists of two Commissioners
trom each State and Territory of the United States and the District of Colum-
bia, with eight Commissioners at-Large, appointed by the President of the
United States, and is empowered io accept a site and approve plans of build-
ings to be offered by the corporation above named. The Commission is also
authorired to allot space, classity exhibits, appoint judges, and pertorm some
other similar duties.
V. The Board of Lady Managers of the Worlds Columbian Commission
is composed of ladies apprinted under the act of Congress, to represent the
special interests of women in the Exposition.

S is now well knoun, the tour hundredth anniversary of the discovery of

America, by Christopher Columbus, will be celebrated at Chicago, in
1893. under te sanction ot the sovernment of the United States, on a scate
commensurate with the importance and dignity of the occasion.
The measures already taken give satisfactory assurances that the exposi-
tion then to be made of the material progress of the world, will be such as to
deserve unqualitied approval.
but to make the Exposition complete, and the celebration adequate,
the wondertul achievements of the newage in science, literature, education,
sovernment, jurisprudence, morals, charity, religion and other departments of
human activity, should also be conspicuously displayed as the most effective
means of increasins the fraternity, progress, prosperityand peace of mankind.
it nas theretore veen proposed that a series ot Worlds Congresses tor
that purpose be held in connection with the Worlds Columbian Exposition of
1893. and the Wontns Covourss Auxitiany has been duly authorized and
organized, to promote the holding and success of such Congresses.
