A report from Macassar dated June 7, 1751 describes that first a leader was appointed. Things remained this way for a long time until the wife of the old Aroe Palacca came to the governor and council to request that Intje Tjoeka be appointed as Captain of the Malays. This was granted to her majesty, and from that time the Malays were first separated from the Captain of the Chinese. After this, the above-mentioned Ongwatko made a request to the honorable N.N., Commissioner of these Eastern Coasts, who had then arrived here from Amboina.
