On October 22, 1728, officials A. Minnendonk and P. Boockesteijn in Nagasaki recorded trade requests for Japan. The list included various textiles and goods:

  • 150 pieces of patterned gingams
  • 100 pieces of taffachelas
  • 3,000 pieces with dark brown background
  • 200 pieces of fine bleached salempores
  • 2,500 pieces of broad blue cloth
  • 20,000 pieces of rye skins
  • 4,000 pounds of patchouli

For the Japanese Emperor, they specifically requested:

  • 2 Persian mares, at least 4.5 Rhineland feet tall
  • 1-3 Persian stallions (spotted white, gray, brown, or black, but not yellow as it was considered non-pure Persian)
  • 3 hunting dogs trained to catch deer and wild boar (2 females, 1 male)
  • 2 ostriches
  • 1 telescope about 2 units long with 11-12 lenses, able to see people 12 Japanese or Dutch miles away
  • Rose of Jericho plant or seeds
  • Olive tree seeds
  • Square glass bottles with silver screws
  • 32 types of plants including various roots, herbs, and spices
  • 18 types of seeds including opium, cardamom, and areca
