On September 17, 1576, Jaspar Roelogh, tax collector in Brabant in the district of Leuven, was ordered to pay 5,000 pounds to soldiers. This money was meant for troops newly recruited by Colonel van Heze to replace those who had died or been captured. The funds would also cover the cost of weapons and supplies lost in recent skirmishes against Spanish cavalry.
Each soldier who fought well would receive half a daalder (40 coins) to boost their morale and encourage better service. On September 19, 1576, at Brussels, the three states of Brabant, at the request of the Marquis of Haurech, ordered Jaspar Roelofs to pay out an additional 1,000 pounds from the tax funds.
