On January 13, 1666, several women appeared before notary Adriaen Lock to make a statement. They were:
All these women lived in the same town. They testified at the request of Manuel mendes davilior and Ragel davilar, a married couple. The women, except for Annetge Caspers, were close neighbors. On the previous Thursday afternoon, they saw thick smoke coming from the requesters' house. They thought the house was on fire and heard a great commotion inside. When they entered, they saw that Annetgen Pieters, the maid, had accidentally set some cloths on fire in a stove. If this had not been discovered in time, it could have led to a major accident and the house might have burned down. The witnesses saw that the requesters were very upset about this incident.
