The owners of the ship named the 'Nachtegael' [=Nighingale.] Thijs Volckertss
Mossel master, having board and seven the notice and protest made against them
on the last day of September just past in the name of the owners of the ship named
the Fortuyn,'master Hendrick Christiaenss, give for answer and notice the
schipohners of the same Hendrick Christiaenss herewith:
That from the first day on they southt nothing Else but to settle amicably and in
friedschip with the summoners. therefore they had formerly made, while both
ships were still lying in this country [Holland.] three different honest proposals
to the said owners, before and in the presence of the Reverend Petrus Plancius.
First that they were satisfied and much liked to see that each of the two com¬
panies were to said and trade to the said regions mentioned in the notice of the
summoners, each on his own account and that peaceable and in Yarmony without
interfering,Neventing or obstructing the other.
Or second, that they were satisfied to omnite and that then on behalf
of each Company a ship would be equiped and sent to the same regions to trade
there jointly and for common account, in the understanding that the submoners
and their company shouldæundertake two-this of the profit or loss and the
respondents one-third, and in this way not be in each other’s way and this have
trade.
