this day, the 25th of June, 1632, appeared before me in
the presence, etc., Gillis Jansz, master carpenter,aged
about 41 years and Abraham Pieters, miller,aged about
31 years. And they have with true words instead and offer
ing to take the oath, declared, witnessed and attested
at the request of Franchoijs Veersaert, mill builder, that
it is true that, in the year 1627, about the month of
February, they were with the principal in New otherland,
on the island of Manatust; they, the witnesses being
then present have hoard and observe that the Director
Pieter Minuit had made it his business to dam the fresh
water in such a ammner and so High that a water grist
mill could be overated with it. Also that they, the wit-
nesses have on several occasion heard the aforesaid
Pieter Minuit declare that he did not doubt that there
would be a lack of water. Actum in Amsterdam, Jan
Hendrickxs Roos and Claes Isaacxs Duijnhelm being present
as witnesses.
