Question/answer » How do I build a pedigree or descendant chart from one record?

You have found a record. That record names parents. You also want to know the parents of those parents. And so on. With Plus, Open Archives does this search work automatically.

Showing ancestors in a pedigree

1. Open a record, for example a birth or marriage record.
2. In the block Related documents, click the option to show ancestors.
3. Open Archives searches for the records of the parents, grandparents and further ancestors.
4. You see the result as a pedigree, with for each person the record on which the find is based.

Automatically searching for children

The other way round is also possible. From a marriage record, Open Archives searches for the birth records of the children of this couple. That way you build a descendant chart.

Please note

Open Archives searches by names, dates and places. Always check the records found yourself. With common names, the wrong person may be linked. The records are shown, so you can quickly verify it.
