Question/answer » Can I also use the data of Open Archives via an API or as open data?

Yes. Open Archives is built on open data. Open Archives also makes the data openly available again. That way developers and researchers can build their own applications with it.

What is available?

  • API: searching the person mentions, retrieving a record, statistics, historical weather and more. The description is on For developers.
  • Records in other formats: put /json, /xml, /ttl or /gedcom after the link of a record.
  • Exports: complete files per source in CSV, XML and RDF.
  • OAI-PMH: an interface to harvest all data automatically.
  • MCP server: an interface that lets AI assistants search Open Archives.

Rules

The API is free. A few parts require a key. Do not make more than four requests per second and send a recognisable name of your program. Cite the archive as the source.
