Family photos are personal. You do not want them to wander around the internet just like that. That is why a family archive is private.

Who can get in?

Only people you invite yourself. They log in with their own password. In the list of participants you see exactly who has access. And you can remove someone again at any time.

What does the outside world see?

Only the name of the archive, your name as archivist and the description. Plus news items you make public yourself. Photos, documents, stories and responses are never public. Search engines such as Google cannot reach them.

What does Family Archivist itself do?

• Your photos are only used to show them to your participants. Not for anything else.
• The connection with the website is encrypted.
• You can secure your account further with two-step authentication or a passkey.
• Family Archivist is a Dutch service and falls under European privacy law.

What can you do yourself?

• Only invite people you trust.
• Do not put sensitive details of living persons in a public news item.
• Download an export regularly as a backup.
