Question/answer » How do my images get into the image bank?

The image bank contains all images of all publications on Genealogy Online. More than a million photos, scans, memorial cards and records. Visitors can search in it. Your images are added automatically when you upload them to your publication.

How are my images found?

Visitors search for two things:

  • the name of the person the image is linked to;
  • the description of the image.

So a good description is important. In your family tree program, write down for each image what it shows. For example: Memorial card of Johanna de Vries, died Tilburg 1932. Or: Passport of Jan Bakker, 1921. This text is included in your GEDCOM file.

Which images do not go into the image bank?

  • Images of living persons. These are never shown.
  • Images that are not linked to a person.
  • Images behind an access gate. These are for invited guests only.

Mind the copyright

Only add images that you are allowed to publish. A photo by a photographer or from a book may still be protected by copyright.
