Question/answer » Why is my name shown with my reviews and favourites?

Do you write a review of a website on Stamboom Gids? Then your name is shown with it. Do you make your favourite websites public? Then your name is on that page too.

Do you submit a website to us? Your name and e-mail address stay hidden. We do not show those.

Why is my name there?

A review is a judgement. Readers want to know whose judgement it is. A review without a name says little. With your name alongside, others can weigh your opinion.

Is that allowed under privacy law?

Yes. We show your name because it is part of the service you use. Privacy law (GDPR) calls this "performance of the contract". You can read this in our privacy policy and in article 19 of our terms and conditions.

Can I change my name?

Yes. On Stamboom Gids you use the same account as on the Stamboom Forum. You change your name there:

  1. Go to My Stamboom Forum › Profile › Personal details.
  2. Enter the name you want to show.
  3. Save. The new name is visible on Stamboom Gids as well.

May I use a pseudonym?

Yes. A pseudonym is allowed. Just your initials is fine too.

One thing is not allowed: using someone else's name. The name of a company or an archive is not allowed either. If you do so anyway, we will change the name. In case of misuse we can close your account.

Can I make my favourites private again?

Yes. You decide whether your favourites are public. Do you set them to private? Then your name disappears from that page too.
