1. Committees are appointed when their services seem to ve required.
Should other Committees appear to be necessary or expedient, they will be
appointed. The work of the several Congresses is 50 sub- divided, specified
and arranged, that a very busy person can pertorm an important part of it
without serious interterence with other duties. This plan nas secured a
cooperation that coula not otherwise have veen attained. Lach Committee
prepares, and the Auxiliary issues a Preliminary Address, outlinins the work
proposed, and invitins suxsestions trom persons and societies interested, in
all parts of the wor1d.
2. The entire material exhibit will be given in Jackson Park, at the south
end of Chicago, under the charge of the Officers of the Worlds Columbian
Exposition, and the Worlds Columbian Commission. The entire series of
Worlds Congresses will be held under the charge of the Worlds Congress
Auxiliary, in the permanent Memorial Art Palace, to be erected on the shore
of Lake Michigan, near the heart of Chicago. This Worlds Congress Art
Palace will be occupied exclusively by such Congresses durins the whole of
the Exposition season. So important is the series of Worlds Congresses
deemed by the Directory of the Exposition, that to provide suitable places of
meetins, they have entered into a contract with the Art Institute of Chicago,
to contribute two hundred thousand dollars sor the erection of this Art Palace,
the total cost of which is estimated at more than six hundred thousand
dollars. It is designed to be one of the most beautitul buildings in America.
It will contain two large audience rooms, calculated to accommodate trom
three thousand to thirty-five hundred persons each. In addition to these large
halls, there will be thirty smaller rooms, calculated to accommodate trom
three hundred to seven hundred persons each. These smaller rooms will ve
used tor meetings ot the Divisions, Chapters, Sections and Committees of the
Congresses. Thus many Congresses of a Department maybe in simultaneous
Session.
3. In addition to the Art Palace, the Great Auditorium, in the immediate
vicinity, will be used when a still larger audience room will be necessary.
These places of meeting will be provided by the Directory of the Worlds
Columbian Exposition and the Directors of the Art Institute of Chicago, for
the use of the various Worlds Congresses, without expense to the participants
therein.
4. The dates for the several Congresses have as yet been fixed in only a
tew instances, but it is expected that all the other Congresses will be assigned
a definite date on the programme, nearly or quite a year in advance of the
time of meetins, and that the orators and essayists by whom the great themes
will be presented, will have a like time tor preparation. As hitherto frequently
