This group of victims is comprised of different categories. In it are a number of Antillean victims with incomplete or insufficient data, making it difficult to recognize them as official warvictims at this time. Also there are a number of Netherlands and foreign persons who did not die as a direct result of enemy action. They are however recognized as warvictims in their countries of origin. Some of them remain buried on the islands, most of them were transferred to cemeteries in their home countries after the war.

Chief Engineer, s.s. Amazone, Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomboot Maatschappij (KNSM)Amsterdam (Netherlands), 16 January 1887
Curaçao, 20 April 1942
Buried Protestant Cemetery Roodeweg, Willemstad (Curaçao). Later transferred to Military Cemetery Roodeweg, Willemstad (Curaçao)

het is wel van belang om deze mensen te noemen als oorlogsslachtoffer. zij zijn nu nergens genoemd in NL

Report an error

There may be errors in the data of documents. Copying data from (scans of) originals is human work. But computers that can read handwriting can also make mistakes.

If you find an error in the data you are encouraged to report it so that this can be corrected in the source at the archival institution or association.
