van Eemmast is niet de correcte achternaam. Elbertien (ook wel Elbertje) van Eem Mast is in 1795 gedoopt te Amsterdam als dochter van Hendrik Mast en Gerharda Hendrika van Eem. Zij is genoemd naar haar tante Elbertje van Eem, de zuster van haar moeder. Ze heeft de achternaam van haar suikertante overgenomen, vandaar van Eem Mast als dubbele achternaam. De gezusters Van Eem waren in goeden doen en de enige kinderen van Hendrik van Eem (koster te Brummen) en Agnes Swarthoff (dochter uit een steenrijke papiermakersfamilie op de Veluwe). Hendrik Mast was schipper van beroep en heeft dikwijls geld moeten lenen om de eindjes aan elkaar te knopen. Aan zijn schoonzuster Elbertje van Eem heeft hij zijn complete inboedel overgedragen en ook het erfdeel van zijn schoonmoeder Agnes Swarthoff is overgedragen aan Elbertje van Eem om zijn schulden te betalen. Elbertien van Eem Mast trouwt in 1819 te Zutphen met Harm Stoter, ook een telg uit een schippersfamilie. Zutphen werd hun woonplaats. Harm Stoter is overleden te Hoorn, waar Elbertien van Eem Mast uiteindelijk terecht is gekomen, heb ik tot op heden niet kunnen achterhalen. Door diverse ambtenaren van de BS werd haar achternaam Van Eem Mast aan elkaar geschreven als ware het 1 naam. In de rechterlijke archieven van Brummen en Zutphen zijn diverse acten te vinden over de families Mast, Van Eem, Stoter etc.
