On Thursday, 4 August Paolo Norberto AGRETTI (Italy) wrote
Identified as Claudio Agretti (called Aigroz or Aigrot), famous canon of Bruges and papal ambassador (internuncius). Reference: Inscriptions funéraires et monumentales de la Flandre, Volumes 1-2 (also in Google Books). He was born in Dole on December 8, 1636 (during the siege of the city) and died in Bruges on November 14, 1724. Graduated in civil and canon law.
I would like to know your opinion of the following conjecture:
His his father was probably Simone Agretti, soldier of fortune from Corse, who fought for the Franche-Comté during the siege; while I have not identified his mother, she must have been from Dole; we know for certain that Claudio had no relatives in the Flandres, when he died in Bruges no one claimed his heritage. All other Agretti people in the 17th century have so far been identified in "Italy".
