Made public: management files NBI
At the beginning of this year, the management files (from the period 1945-1967) of the Netherlands Institute for Administration (NBI) became public and can be requested and viewed at the National Archives.
Tasks of the NBI were among others:
- Management and liquidation of the enemy and treacherous assets. Traitors of the NSB and Dutchmen who had entered foreign military service, such as the SS, fell among traitors. Enemies were residents of the countries with which the Netherlands had been at war, especially countries such as Germany, Italy and Japan.
- Liquidation of a number of organizations originating from the occupation, such as the NSB and related institutions.
- Control over property of absentees. In practice, these were often deported and not (yet) returned Jews.

You can find the index of management files at GaHetNa in the archive description. On Open Archives this index is made searchable by name:
When there is a file of a person, this can be viewed at the National Archives in The Hague, Netherlands.

Automatic pedigree
Open Archieven gives access to a database with 174 million persons. This information also contains relation information: who is married to whom and who are the parents. Open Archives now uses this knowledge to look up the ancestors of a person.
When you view a document on Open Archives, Open Archives automatically searches for ancestors.
If ancestors are found, an ancestor icon appears to the right of the person's name with a figure behind it. This figure shows the number of ancestors found.

Of course, ancestors can not be found in all cases. This is partly because the information in question is not (yet) available. Partly because there is too little support to find the right ancestors with high reliability.
If you click on the ancestor icon, a window opens where all found ancestors are shown in pedigree format. You can zoom in, zoom out, move and download and share the pedigree chart. If you click on a person, you go to the document from which the information comes.

Go to the birth certificate shown above via the button below and click on the ancestor icon to see the pedigree in your browser.
This feature is now available to all subscribers of Open Archives!
