Search, filter and find via a map
When you start your search on Open Archives you probably start with a name. The 160 million individual entries are searched and the number of search results can be great. With filters you can easily refine your search. Beneath the search results the available filters are listed, with the number of individual entries which the filter will select. You can apply a filter based on source type, place, role and/or period.
The place filter now offers an extra option: display the results on a map. You can get this map by clicking the Place link (in the picture above marked yellow).
The map shows tiles with a specific color which depicts the number of search results (the diameter of a tile is 15 kilometers). In one view you can now see in which areas the search results are located.
When you click on a tile, the number of individual entries is shown as are the placenames within the tile. You can click a placename to apply the place filter on your search.
